Here are some of my doubts …
- That there is a Heaven and Hell.
- The Bible as the inerrant word of God.
- That one religion is the only way to God.
- That Jesus’ death and resurrection magically ‘saves’ us.
- That God punishes or even judges.
- That ‘non-believers’ will not be ‘saved’.
- That people hear God speaking to them.
- Churches seem to be prejudiced against women, ethnic minorities, other religions and the LGBTQ+ community.
- That we need to worship God. (Is God egotistical?)
- That church services are the only way to find God.
- Creeds.
- Any group or individual claiming to know the ‘truth’.
- That prayers are answered.
- That God intervenes.
If we accept that there are no simplistic answers, then we can relax into a sense of wonder and awe, appreciating nature, the universe, love and life itself. Faith is not about saving your individual soul; it’s about love, equality and caring for others and our planet.
Here are two things I definitely believe…
- We should define love first and then everything else fits around it.
- Doubt is essential to faith.
What are your doubts? How do you deal with them?
